Create an Apple Account for a parent, without a bank card

On an iPhone, TamTam is installed from the App Store, which requires an Apple Account. Apple lets you create one without any payment method: you choose “None” when asked. Here is how, in five steps, with the parent’s phone in hand.

Five steps

  1. Open the App Store on the iPhone, tap the account button at the top right, then “Create New Apple Account”.

  2. Enter an e-mail address that the parent can receive (yours works too), choose a password, and pick the country.

  3. When the payment method is requested, choose “None”. Apple writes it plainly: you will not be charged until you make a purchase.

  4. Confirm the phone number and the e-mail with the codes Apple sends.

  5. Search “TamTam” in the App Store, install it, and enter the invitation code from your circle.

Good to know

The “None” option disappears if the account organises a Family Sharing group, holds an unpaid balance, or has an active subscription. For a parent’s own account, none of that applies. TamTam itself is free for the two of you; the Circle subscription, if you ever want more people around your parent, is paid from the caregiver’s account, never from the parent’s.
